Finding Black-billed Magpie
|
Black-billed Magpie is occasionally sighted in western Iowa, the eastern extension of
its range. The first Iowa nesting record in 59 years was recorded at the following
site in 1997. Although there are no guarantees that nesting will occur again, this
and adjacent areas are prime habitat to peruse. Again, please
remember this is private property and confine birding to the road!
Go north on IA-12 from Sioux City. Between miles #25 and #26 look for 234th ST., turn
east, go a bit over 1 mile. Look for the birds around the two man-made dams on the north
side of the road. This is private property; you should confine yourself to the road unless
you get permission from the Lineberrys. If present, the birds are usually
easily seen from the road, anyway.
