Records Committee
The Iowa Records Committee, a standing committee of the Iowa
Ornithologists' Union, is charged with evaluating and voting on
records of rare birds recorded in the state. Records which
receive 7 positive votes on the initial review or 6 votes on
subsequent reviews are accepted. The committee maintains the
current Official Checklist of
Iowa Birds. Members review all records through the end of
the term expiration year shown in parentheses below. If you
are interested in the procedures used by the Records Committee when
evaluating records, please see the Records Committee Procedures Manual.

Documentation Form for Sightings of Rare Birds in Iowa
use this form to report on birds on the casual or accidental list or
for extreme early or late dates
When is a bird in Iowa? Read
this article of
the same name by Tom Kent and use the descriptions in your
documentation of a bird near the border.
Confused on what to document? Check this
list
of review species. Occasionally a field reports editor may
request you complete a form for a bird seen at an unusual time or is
very difficult to identify. Your details help us create a good
source of information for now and in the future. Thank you for
participating in this important task. Also see the
guide for how and
where to report your bird sightings.
