Publications

The Iowa Ornithologists' Union publishes two quarterly periodicals that are sent to the membership and subscribing libraries.  Back issues from 1930 forward are available on the Ann Barker Memorial Library.  The most recent two years are available only to IOU members through Member Services on this website.

Iowa Bird Life, our quarterly journal features seasonal comprehensive reports of Iowa bird sightings, notes and articles on rare and unusual sightings, Christmas Bird Count reports, profiles of Iowa's birders, bird-finding guides, articles of general birding interest, original research on Iowa birds, and IOU meetings and business.

Articles and photos related to birds and birding in Iowa are welcomed by the editor.  These include short notes on rare birds seen and more comprehensive research articles of interest.  See the author instructions for helpful hints on formatting and submitting files.

IOU News, our quarterly newsletter, provides notes and short articles of general interest and announcements of meetings, field trips, and bird counts sponsored by the IOU and local bird clubs.

Publications Committee

The publications committee is comprised of two at-large members with rotating five-year terms as well as the editors of the journal, the newsletter, and the website.
