IOU Spring & Fall Meetings
Perhaps the highlight of the birding year for many is the chance
to get together and bird with many friends from around the state.
The annual meeting is held each May, usually one side or the other
of Mother's Day depending on the potential birding in the selected
area of the state. Fall meetings, which were started years ago
by friends who wanted to get together more than once a year, usually
are held shortly after Labor Day when migrant birds are moving
through. Occasionally, a different fall date is chosen to look
for particular species. No matter what the date or location,
meetings are well attended by birders of various skill levels.
The prime focus of a weekend is to get out and bird on field trips
to varied habitats and organized by local volunteers.
Afternoon programs of general interest provide a respite from the
activities of field trips. Most of all, it is a time to greet
old friends and make many new ones. For a flavor of what an IOU weekend can be to you,
