It's hard to believe that over 15 years have passed since the first rendition of Iowa Birds & Birding found the way to the worldwide web. That first site was graciously hosted by Simpson College and became the forerunner of what would later become a major way of communicating and doing business for the Iowa Ornithologists' Union

From the first site published in 1996 evolved the IOU officially sanctioned site - Over the years the site has grown and this latest version is the fourth complete renovation. The website is managed by the IOU Publications Committee as an electronic publication.

This version of the site is truly an organizational and team effort. Jim Dinsmore and Bill Scheible, as at-large members of the Publications Committee, have undertaken the task of writing much of the content. Paul Hertzel, with his wizardry in Photoshop, has as usual provided many of the graphics. But the true contributors to making the site successful are the IOU members who constantly come up with new ideas and then contribute their talents be it Mike Dooley's terrific gazatteer, John Bissel's management of the "Hot Birds", Reid Allen's quarterly update of Early-Late Dates begun many years ago now by Tom Kent, the tireless effort of birders and Seasonal Reports Editors to have data available to begin to tell some stories, or the many photographers who grace our pages with great photographs.

Iowa Birds & Birding belongs to all of us and is possible only because of so many contributions by all IOU members. Enjoy!
